The summer of 2013 is right around the corner. While we don't have formal meetings throughout the summer months, we are planning a number of photo walk field trips throughout this time. Some will be close by and others might be up to a few hours away, so you'll just need to decide if If you'd like to participate, follow our Facebook page "Susquehanna Valley Shutterbugs" and we'll make sure to post the details there.
Another fun tradition that we do every summer is to complete a photo scavenger hunt. The photos can be taken at any time and in any format and then you email your photos by September 1st so that we can share them in a slideshow during our September meeting. The topics for this summer's scavenger hunt include Repetition, Up Close, Group of 3, Favorite Things, and Relaxation.
Have a fantastic summer! Don't forget to take your camera on your adventures!

Hello and happy new year! I can still say happy new year, right?!?
Members of the Shutterbugs have been busy getting ready for our first show of 2013. This is our Members' Only Show and it is being called the "Unrestricted" show because there are no rules restricting the photography being displayed. In fact, the photographers have gotten very creative and are excited that there are no rules on presentation, size of photo, frame/mat color, amount of processing, etc.
If you'd like to check these photos out for yourself, please come out to the Thomas Taber Museum on 4th Street in Williamsport this Friday night (February 1st) from 6-9 pm for our show opening. We will have a wine and cheese (and other food) reception and the event is free and open to the public. You'll also be able to vote for your top 5 favorite photos and then see whether your favorites will win one of the 10 ribbons awarded that night. If you can't make it on opening night, the photos will be on display through Monday, February 25th.
Also, we're collecting dues for the members this month. Dues are $24 for individuals, $36 for family memberships and $12 for students. See Gail Kulp at the show opening on Friday to pay your dues. Do not put them in the collection basket at the front door or else you will not be marked off as paying your dues. New membership forms will also be available in case anyone new wants to join the club.
See you on Friday night!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you are all enjoying our first snowfall of the season today! It sure is beautiful with everything covered in white. Take advantage of it and get your cameras out! You might just get a shot for our Members' Only "Unrestricted" Show that opens on Friday, February 1st. We'll be posting the rules and entry details in the coming weeks on our website, so keep an eye out.
In the meantime, you can submit up to 15 photos to Kevin Stroble for our January 28th meeting and slideshow entitled "Show Me What You Got". You can email any photos that you've taken and are espe proud of to Kevin, but they need to reach him by Friday, January 11th to be included in the slideshow.
Finally, don't forget to RSVP to our annual holiday dinner. It is being held on Wednesday, December 12 at 6 pm. I need the head count by Friday, November 30th for the restaurant. And, just a reminder that we will NOT be having a monthly meeting in December.
Have a wonderful holiday season and stay warm!

Mark your calendars for our next meeting on Monday, October 22nd starting at 6 pm.

This summer, we have some fun things planned to get us out in the community taking pictures.
On Monday, July 16th, we'll be meeting at the Lycoming County Fair starting at 7:00 pm in Hughesville. This will be a nighttime photowalk and you might want to consider bringing a tripod along with your camera. We will meet at the gate closest to the office and grandstand at 7:00 pm. The rain date is Tuesday, July 17th at the same time and location. If there is any doubt about the weather, check your email and Facebook by 5:00 pm for any cancellation announcements. http://www.lycomingfair.com/
All summer long, we will be participating in a photography scavenger hunt. Simply take a photo matching the topic and then email those photos no later than August 1st so that they can be shared in a slideshow at our August 27th meeting. You may also send some of your favorite shots from the photowalk, if you would like. The scavenger hunt photo topics are listed below.
Scavenger Hunt Photo Topics:
1. My addiction
2. Moon or Nighttime shot
The Juried Show was a great success last night. We set a record for attendance with 304 people and there was lots of wine and food to enjoy thanks to the donations of local businesses as well as our club members.
A big thank-you goes out to the members of the Show Committee, including the chair, Paul Barret, who helped plan and hang the show. Also, lots of thanks go out to the many members (and their families) who helped with set-up and clean-up last night. Our show would not have been as successful without your help and it definitely didn't go unnoticed or unappreciated.
Congratulations to all our winners and to anyone that was fortunate enough to even make it into the show. Over 50% of the entries were eliminated by the judges and they definitely had a difficult task in making those tough choices. The show results have been posted to our website.
If anyone has any photos that were taken the night of the show opening that they'd like to share, please send them to me so that we can post them on the website.
Mark your calendars for our next monthly meeting on Monday, May 28th at 6:00 pm. (Although this meeting date falls on Memorial Day, the club members agreed at the last meeting to keep it on this date rather than change it.) After the business portion of the meeting, we will be discussing the show and we the judges will be joining us to provide some feedback on their thoughts and perspectives.
The Susquehanna Valley Shutterbugs 16th Annual Juried Show registration page is now available. Please read the Juried Show Rules carefully and then use the online Entry Form to register up to four (4) photographs. Registration ends at noon on Saturday, April 21 and registration will only be taken online. Photos may be dropped off, along with the $10 registration fee per photo for members or $15 for non-members (half-off for students), on either Monday, April 23 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm or on Saturday, April 28 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. No entries will be accepted after 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 28.
Judging will take place on Saturday, April 28 beginning at 1:30 pm and the photographs that are selected to be in the show will be hung for display in the Taber Museum in Williamsport. All photographers will be notified as to whether their photographs have been selected for display or eliminated from the show on that same day however the winners will not be announced until the show opening. Photographs not accepted for display may be picked up on Sunday, April 29 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm or on Saturday, May 5 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. This is the one of three annual photo exhibits put on by the Susquehanna Valley Shutterbugs, but it is the ONLY one that has cash prizes. The first place winner gets $500, second place $250, third place $125, three honorable mentions at $75 each and the judge's choice prize of $50. In addition, the public will get a chance to vote for their top five (5) favorite photographs at the show opening and ribbons will be awarded for first, second and third based on these votes.
Don't forget to invite all your friends and family to the Susquehanna Valley Shutterbugs Juried Show opening on Friday, May 4th at the Taber Museum in Williamsport! Thank you for your support of the Susquehanna Valley Shutterbugs over the years!
