Thanx again to Jack Preston’s presentation, at the April meeting, it was truly enjoyable!
Thanx to all those who participated in making our annual juried show a success. Many thanx to Paul Barrett for all his work over the years and looking forward to Tom Schrimp's ideas as we move forward and he assumes the helm. Remember the show does not come down until June 5th.
Looking ahead.... our next meeting is May 21st, the third Monday of the month as the fourth Monday is Memorial Day. ALSO DON'T FORGET....meetings now start at 7.
This month's meeting will be a critique. This time it will be different. Instead of evaluating the winners, we will be taking a look at the ones that didn’t. Plan on coming to learn.
Other business matters that will be covered:
The Aerosmith song, not the Gene Autry version, “Back in the Saddle Again” plays in my head as I assume being president again after a 20 year hiatus. Now in our 25th year, I was happy that SVS will continue with new people stepping up to fill the roles of as officers. And those people are:
There are a few changes I would like to institute in the coming months.
At the last meeting I had proposed we split the group into two; those who are starters and those who have some experience. I had said that I would teach the starters the digital photo class that I had taught at Penn College. This would be available to anyone who is a member. I would like someone to take lead on guiding the experienced group on a photo walk with some sort of theme. Themes could be something like the magic hour or light, tripod usage, macro, street photography. This could be a different person each month sharing their particular interest. Please give it some thought.
Our Juried Show is coming up very soon, with the opening on May 4th. Deadline for entry is Friday April 27th at noon. There are two drop off times. 5-6 PM before our next meeting on the 23rd and 1-4 on Saturday April 28th. Follow the link for Upcoming Shows to register.
And lastly but certainly not least……this month’s meeting we will have a special treat of Jack Preston presenting his images from his shoot in Mexico of the Day of the Dead celebration. See the Facebook posting for more details.
Looking forward to seeing you at the next meeting!
We are coming to the end of summer. The summer photo walks were well attended and everyone seemed to have fun. We also enjoyed our Annual Summer Picnic at Wayne Palmer's house on August 1st. And, I've seen a lot of fun vacation photos posted to our Facebook page from members traveling all around the world this summer.
Scavenger Hunt photos are due to Kevin by Sept 7. His email address is email@example.com. Please send all photos to him with the name of the topic and your name in the file title. The topics are listed below:

The rules for the upcoming Animal Themed Members' Only Show are now on our website. Registration will be open on our website from September 1-25. Anyone who is not a current member but would like to enter this show, they will just need to pay their dues along with the entry fee for each photo being submitted and this is discussed in more details in the rules. Photos may be dropped off on Sept. 27 from 1-3 pm or on Sept. 28 from 5-6 pm before our meeting begins that night. The photos will be judged by a panel of three member judges and cash prizes will be awarded to the winning photos. The public will also get a chance to vote for their favorites during the show opening on October 2nd.
We hope to see everyone back in the Taber Museum for our September 28th meeting at 6 pm. We will be treated to a slideshow from our summer scavenger hunt photos and will also be hanging our Animal Themed Show that will open on Friday, October 2. We will also be taking sign-ups from members to help with the Show opening night from setting up for the show, providing food and wine for the show, helping out during the show, and cleaning-up after the show.
The Shutterbugs had a fantastic annual holiday dinner this week. Photos of the dinner and gift exchange have been posted to our website. It was a lot of fun and, if you missed it, I hope you can join us next year. We always have a ton of laughs and the food was great!
The Alphabet Assignment is still in full swing. Everyone who attended our November meeting was assigned a letter and they have to find something that looks like that letter and photograph it. If you weren't at the meeting and would like to participate, please contact me and I'll send you a letter. You have until January 19 to get a photo of your letter and send it to me via email. I will put together a slide show and share the photos at our meeting at the end of January.
Our Unrestricted Members' Only Show is scheduled to open on February 6th and registration for the photos will be open from January 1-23. The show rules and information have been posted to our website and the registration link will be live on January 1st. If you have never entered in a show or haven't entered in a while, this is a great show to start again. Without any rules about the type of photo nor the framing and matting rules, you can do just about anything and be creative with your photos. Show us what you got!
On behalf of the Shutterbugs, I wish everyone a happy holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the new year.

The Shutterbugs Black & White Show is currently on display at the Taber Museum in downtown Williamsport, so if you didn't make it to the show opening on October 3rd, please take a moment to check it out before it ends on October 27th.
Our October 27th meeting will include a lesson in Black & White photography from Ralph Wilson before we hold a critique on the photos entered in the show. We will also be discussing the results of the member survey and determining the next steps for the future of the Shutterbugs. As always, our meetings are open to the public and everyone is welcome. Our meetings start at 6 pm.
We had a wonderful photo walk in Lewisburg last night. The weather cooperated and we had at least 12 people in attendance! If you got some great shots, feel free to share them on our Facebook page.
We have decided to cancel our August photo walk, The planned date (Aug 25) is on the first day of school for most of the local children and teachers as well as the local colleges. In addition, the original idea of photographing an eagle's nest would not have worked at the proposed location because the eagles had a failed nest. Therefore, we are not holding a photo walk in August unless someone wants to propose a new date and location change. I'm up for suggestions.
Don't forget about the summer photo scavenger hunt! The photos are due to me (via email) before September 1st in order to be included in the slideshow at our September 22nd meeting. Please only send one photo for each category.
-1 second exposure
Mark your calendars for our September 22nd meeting. We'll be at the Taber Museum and the meeting will be starting at 6pm. We'll be finalizing plans for our October 3rd Black & White photo show during that meeting as well.

Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner and, with it, the unofficial start of summer. This means that the Shutterbugs will be taking a break from formal meetings over the summer months and will be meeting for outdoor photowalks instead. Check out our "Dates to Remember" page for a list of when and where we will be having these photowalks.
In addition, the Shutterbugs members participate in an annual summer photo scavenger hunt. We take photos throughout the summer on a list of topics and then share our photos in a slideshow at our first meeting in September. The scavenger hunt is open to everyone who wants to participate and entries should be emailed to Gail Kulp. Topics for the Summer of 2014 include: Insect, Forest/Trees, Something Old, Shadow and 1 second exposure.
We hope you have a wonderful summer and get a chance to use your camera often! Don't forget that you can share photos or photography articles/information at any time on our Facebook page!
It was a long cold winter, but spring is finally here. The flowers are blooming, the trees are blossoming and the grass is growing. Hopefully, everyone is getting out with their cameras and capturing all this beauty!
The 18th Annual Juried Show opened last night and it was a great success. The results are posted on our "Show Results" page and we'll soon add photos of all the winning photographers with their winning entries.
Our next meeting will be held on Monday, May 19th starting at 6 pm at the Taber Museum in downtown Williamsport. The purpose of the meeting is to conduct a critique of the Juried Show and the 3 judges will be in attendance to provide their feedback as to why they chose the pieces that they did.
Our summer meetings will be taking place outside of the museum this year. We will still meet on the 4th Monday of each month, but we will be taking photowalks around the local area. Our first photowalk is scheduled for Monday, June 23. We will meet in the Taber Museum parking lot and will decide on our destination that evening. Details on the date and location of our other summer photowalks will be posted on the "Dates to Remember" page.
Have a wonderful spring and summer!

Registration for our 18th Annual Juried Show opens in just a few days. This year, we are giving away over $1,300 in cash prizes for the winning photographs in the show. All of the rules and registration information can be found on our website. Please read the rules carefully.
The Juried Show opens on Friday, May 2nd with a wine and cheese reception from 6-9 pm at the Taber Museum. The event is free and open to the public and attendees are invited to vote for their favorite 5 photos which will receive ribbons. The cash prizes will also be awarded that night as a result of the judging by the professional judges which will have taken place earlier in the week.
Don't forget to come out to our monthly meetings. Our next two meetings are on Monday, April 28 and Monday, May 19. Our meetings begin promptly at 6 pm at the Taber Museum in downtown Williamsport. The Shutterbugs will continue to meet through the summer months, but we will be participating in photo walks of local towns rather than meeting inside the museum. Keep an eye on our "Dates to Remember" page for locations throughout the summer.
Thank you for your support of the Shutterbugs.
